It is worked in a trapeze cut and is untreated — not oiled, not resin-filled. Colour and clarity are as they were laid down in the rough material. Like every stone from our workshop it is a unique piece, available only once.

The trapeze cut follows the shape of the rough piece: a step cut with two parallel and two tapering sides. As much of the material as possible is preserved that way, and the long steps show the light green in clear bands. Trapezes are often set as side stones beside a centre stone, but they also stand very much on their own.

About emerald

Emerald is the variety of beryl coloured green by chromium and vanadium. Emeralds from Torrington are typically light — a fresh, delicate green, often with a hint of blue. We have described this in detail in our guide: Emerald: untreated from the Habachtal and from Torrington.

Almost every emerald in the trade is oiled or resin-filled to disguise fissures. This stone is not — what you see stays that way. Inclusions belong to emerald and count as proof of origin rather than as a flaw. With a Mohs hardness of 7.5 to 8 it is suitable for jewellery, but sensitive to knocks because of its internal fissures; please avoid ultrasonic cleaning.

Specifications

Stone type: emerald (beryl)

Weight: 0.41 ct

Origin: Torrington, New South Wales, Australia

Cut shape: trapeze

Treatment: none, untreated

Cutting: our own workshop

Location: Austria

Availability: unique piece, one only

Further single pieces from the same material can be found under Emerald, rare species beyond it under More gemstones.
