Only in the 18th century were the two minerals cleanly separated. Luc Yen in northern Vietnam is today among the most important sources for pink to red spinel.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eSpinel is practically never treated — unlike ruby and sapphire, that is the normal case here and not a distinguishing feature.
