Rhodochrosite

Rhodochrosite is manganese carbonate — in the trade mostly opaque and banded in pink. Transparent, facetable material is something else entirely and very rare; the best of it came from the Sweet Home Mine in Colorado, closed since 2004. With a Mohs hardness of 3.5 to 4 and perfect cleavage in three directions, rhodochrosite is among the most demanding stones that reach our lap. Every stone comes from our own workshop and is a unique piece.
