Vinhedothe grand cru of tourmalines

Turmalin Vinhedo 10,78 ct im langen Fantasieschliff mit gerundeten Enden, Brasilien, unbehandelt

Some stones come fresh from the mine. Vinhedo waited. Its rough was mined in the 1980s and lay hidden for decades, like a great vintage coming into its own in the darkness of the cellar. When we held it up to the light, we saw what time had preserved: a deep, berry red of ripe blackberry and dark cherry, laced with warm notes of cinnamon. In the right light, a glowing raspberry breaks through, juicy and vivid, as if freshly picked.

Turn it, and you see it breathe. Light rises through the stone like wine slowly swirling in the glass, velvety and dark one moment, sparkling and fiery the next. Vinhedo is not a loud stone. It is a vintage, and there is only this one.

Vinhedo was cut from Brazilian tourmaline rough mined in the 1980s. Old stock like this has become a rarity. Many of the deposits of that time are long exhausted, and rough of this depth of colour and size rarely comes to market today.

The rough came to us through a fellow gem cutter and friend, FS Gems. We share his passion for exceptional material. Even as rough, the crystal showed what makes it special: a rich, berry base colour with a fiery undertone that stays clear and saturated along its entire length, without turning brownish or fading. Untreated, just as the earth made it.

There is only this one.
