This red beryl weighs 0.16 ct and comes from Utah in the USA. It is worked in a rectangular cut and is untreated — the fine inclusions are typical of red beryl and belong to the character of the material. Like every stone from our workshop it is a unique piece, available only once.
The rectangular cut is the classic step cut of the beryl family: broad, calm bands of facets and clipped corners. It shows colour and interior openly, preserves weight and spares the most vulnerable places — with a material that almost always brings inclusions, the most sensible choice.
About red beryl
Red beryl, in the trade also called bixbite, is the manganese-coloured red variety of beryl — the same mineral family as emerald and aquamarine. In cuttable quality it comes practically only from the Wah Wah Mountains in Utah. We have described this in detail in our guide: Red beryl, the red relative of emerald from Utah.
Cut stones above one carat are exceptionally rare — the vast majority of the material stays well below that, which makes this stone a typical representative of its size. Inclusions belong to red beryl and count among collectors as proof of origin rather than as a flaw. With a Mohs hardness of 7.5 to 8 it is hard enough for everyday use in jewellery; because of its rarity it still usually ends up in a collection.
